We often define our daily schedules by work, kid's school, kid's activities and other factors. Now that we are all spending more time at home, it's easy to throw structure out the window and do what we want, when we want. While I think it's ok to take this time to break away from such a formal daily structure, some people thrive in a schedule. So I see the benefit of both! For my family and I, we created a schedule we've been loosely following for the past two months. I really wanted to test it out before sharing! While the times vary during the week, it gives us a list of things to follow and keep us on track (and most importantly, occupied).
Our daughter is 5-years-old and is going to be attending Kindergarten next year. So our big priority is giving her our undivided attention for learning. It's also important for us to give her creative time to do things such as crafts, school projects (her pre-K sends), or watching an educational video.
We come up with creative ways to keep her mind engaged. Thanks to her teachers who continue to send us materials and good ole pinterest. Follow my pinterest!
My fiance, Mitchell and I are both working from home and need our uninterrupted time to get work and tasks done. My vanity desk turned into his desk in the bedroom, and my office is in the living room.We take turns "working" then switch and go to "teaching" mode. I use this time to blog, work on my website, create social media posts, edit vlogs and photos, and catch up on emails. Mitchell will work on our eBay store sales, listings, photos, and shipping packages, and sourcing more items to sell. This has been one of our focuses and source of extra income in times like these! In between all of these time-slots, we factor in home tasks such as dishes, laundry, disinfecting surfaces, and tidying up the house. This has really taught us how we need to work together to keep the house in order! We also shift things around for our walks in the park, or for our limited outings (for essential errands only). A tidy kitchen makes all the difference when you're cooking all meals at home! Work together to conquer this task.
Why did we create this block schedule?
It gives us a visual list of what our priorities are for each day.
We both have our time to get our work done, uninterrupted.
We spend quality time with our daughter, helping her learn and prosper.
We have time TOGETHER for meals and breaks.
We work TOGETHER to achieve these daily tasks and keep the house in order.
We have times of SEPARATION without guilt.
What to consider when creating your schedule:
What's important to you, (your spouse), (your family), (your household)?
What do you want to make sure gets done DAILY?
How early do you want to wake up? How late do you want to stay up?
Does everyone have their own time and space?
How many hours of the day do you need to dedicate to each task?
Is this a realistic timeline?
What can you do daily to get closer to your GOALS?
You don't have to follow this schedule, but take these principles and apply them to your daily needs!
Remember to be flexible and don't be discouraged. It takes time to implement new habits.
