Hey #simplelifesociety! If you're anything like me, and itching to decorate your home with something new (but can't go to your favorite stores) then this article is for you. I'm sharing 10 everyday items that you can find in your home to use as decor or elevate your current design style! I'm so excited to share this because I feel like it's such an easy thing to do, and can make a big impact. This can also help relieve some "quarantine" stress at home, and help your home feel new!
1. Blankets
Switch out blankets from different rooms or find one that you haven't used in a while and give it new life! A draped blanket can bring texture and color into any space. It also makes it cozy, and we love a good blanket to cozy up in.
2. Books/journals
Gather your favorite book and stack them to display their spines, stand them tall between two book ends, or lay them down to show off their cover art. It's a bonus if you group similar color tones for a cohesive look. Whether you're into home decor books, cook books or inspirational books, proudly display your collection! This looks beautiful on open shelving layered with vases, potted plants, or photo frames. Shop my favorite home and lifestyle books.
3. Candles
Take out your candles (new and old) and display them with other decor. It's so simple to do, and can help enhance the mood of any room. Elevate the look by placing on a candle holder, add bare candles into a glass vase, or display on a tray. I love a good candle by the bedside when winding down at night. Shop my self-care essentials!
4. Drinkware and bowls
This one has to be my favorite! Take your unused bowls, mugs, glassware out of the cabinets and repurpose them as decor. Fill a bowl with wood beads, vase filler, or fruit! Turn a mug into your new pen holder on your desk, a makeup brush holder, or repurpose it as a succulent planter. (The planter is now on my to-do list!)
5. Plate chargers and mats
Plate chargers and place mats are inexpensive, come in a large variety of colors and materials, and you probably already have some in your kitchen! Use them to anchor other home decor (like pictured above), use a stand to display them on a buffet or counter, or hang them on a wall as wall art! I'm considering getting more flat natural place mats to create a wall art piece. Possible new DIY?
6. Trays
I love me a good tray! If it has handles, even better! You can place these on coffee tables, kitchen islands, counter tops to corral more home decor and style accordingly. It's not only stylish but can serve as storage. I also like to use "tank trays" (the ones made for on your toilet tank) to hold other items. Find one that matches your decor style!
7. Trinkets
Trinkets are perfect because they are personal. From a priceless jewelry box, a quirky figurine, or a collection of crystals, show it off. My favorite trinket is my wooden box that I was gifted from a dear friend. It holds some of my jewelry and a special ornament I like to have on my bedside.
8. Cosmetics/Products
Display the prettiest cosmetics and products on a try to serve as decor. It can help your bathroom counter or vanity feel more spa-like. Use matching products for a cohesive look and avoid clutter.
9. Boxes/chests
Use photo boxes ,a hat box, or a decorative chest like this one pictured. Stack decorative boxes to give height! Again, it doubles as storage and that's always a plus! Shop my favorite Storage essentials!
10. Accessories (hats/necklaces/jewelry)
Use your favorite fashion accessories to make a statement! I love this "hat wall" made by Gypsy Tan. I'm definitely going to give this a try. Create a space to display your favorite jewelry, too. Or create and display a capsule wardrobe with a free-standing clothing rack.
I hope you enjoyed this article and got some ideas! I am always inspired by others online, and this topic has so many possibilities. Let me know what household items you use to decorate your home!
