Gold-Dipped Home Decor DIY | Easy Thrift Store Upgrade!

I have been seeing this trend everywhere lately! From glass vases to concrete pots, companies are selling these trendy items for a higher price when you can simply do them yourself. Learn how to re-create this high-end look by upcycling inexpensive thrift store pieces or using what you may already have.

The Inspiration - Love the contrast and simplicity! You can apply this method to glass, porcelain, wood, and metal surfaces depending on what primer and spray paint you choose.

Choose a glass or acrylic container that fits your style and needs, the containers were both $1.99 and frame $2.99 from Goodwill.

Start by prepping the items by removing any stickers using rubbing alcohol and wiping off any dust or residue.

Remove the backing from the frame and take it apart. You will be spraying the frame itself and the glass.

Using painters tape, leave about 1-1 1/2 inches exposed at the bottom, taping around being sure the tape is straight as possible. Or you can angle it for a different effect. To protect the top, tape down some paper or plastic wrap.

You can even create stripes or patterns depending on how tall it is or the style you prefer.

Choose a metallic paint of your choice. I chose a gold spray paint and a semi-gloss white for the frame. Turn the objects upside down and spray paint thin layers leaving time in between to dry. A hack is to use a lazy susan tray to spin it while spraying to get even layers.

Once they are completely dry, carefully remove the tape, you should have crisp lines. I love the contrast it gives, and looks great on white and clear surfaces. And you're able to see the gold through the bottom of the glass!

For the matching tray, simply re-assemble to frame with the non-sprayed side up. This way the paint doesn't get scratched and gives a nice mirrored effect.

Now you can proudly display and use your new decor pieces. Use them to hold cosmetics on your vanity, on your kitchen counter, or use as desk organization.

You can also spray vases for floral arrangements, or succulent flower pots would be so cute.
