FURNITURE FLIP DIY Cost: $25-50 What You'll Need IKEA Lack Side Table
Sherwin Williams Paint (coffee table) Name: Essential Gray
Let's start with an easy way to renew an old or tired piece of furniture! We got this IKEA lack side table for free but it needed a makeover.
1. Clean and sand down legs and table sides 2. Tape off the edges of the table top 3. Add an even coat of primer on the legs and sides
We saved some money by using leftover paint we had for our walls and went with a light gray. Using a small roller helps minimize paint streaks.
4. Gently apply tape around the perimeter to protect the dry paint when applying contact paper 5. Add printed contact paper, using a straight edge and peeling as you go I, of course, chose a gray and white marble which is really easy to use. Have someone help you peel the backing off as go.
6. Use a blade or exacto knife to neatly cut off the excess contact paper.
7. You can now remove the painters tape gently and you've got a brand new table!
We also added leftover marble paper we had to the top of my side table drawers to give it more interest and have it match our new coffee table. *Money-saving tip: Repurpose leftover wall paint or stain (if you have any) for furniture flips. And shop thrift store or clearance sale furniture to find treasures!
WALL PATCHING & PAINT Cost: $0-15 What You'll Need Mod Podge (Glue) Baking Soda Foam Brush
If you have small holes in your walls like we do, now's a good time to patch them up! An easy DIY spackle consists of some basic glue and baking soda. (Chances are you already have them in your house!)
Mix to two until you have a paste and use a foam brush to fill in the small holes and a fork to smooth it out. I also used a paper towel to blot any excess. Let it dry completely and you can now paint over it with your wall paint!
SCUFF MARKS Cost: $5-10 What You'll Need Magic Eraser (variety pack)
Most Scuff marks on your walls can easily be removed by using a magic eraser. They're affordable and work like a charm. All you need to do is add water and wipe! Be sure to test it on a small area first to see how your surface reacts. Not all paints are scrub resistant!
Other areas I suggest cleaning up are your door trim, baseboard molding, and door fronts. Clean up high traffic areas like around light switches and door handles.
